Beagles have been described as one of the best family dogs around. Lots of our new owners are recommended by their Vet to consider a Beagle as a family pet because of their superb nature and ability to get along with everyone including kids who can get a little rough at times, but because the Beagle is such a robust and gentle natured breed they don’t mind too much.
Bred in England to track small game by sent, the Beagle is a bright and intelligent little hound who can be very active while at the same time is content to sit around and enjoy some pats and cuddles from his family.
Beagles LOVE their food so it’s important to keep an eye on their weight but on the plus side, because Beagles love their food so much it makes them easy to train with some tasty treats.
The gentle tolerance of Beagle with kids is legendary. A Beagles loyalty and love for his family is well recognized by owners and breeders and has truly earned it’s reputation as one of the greatest canine companions.
Beagles should be joyful and energetic when off the lead while being gentle and quiet when handled. Beagles love people and other dogs and do very well with other pets.
The Beagle is quick to learn and thrives on attention and responds well to kind words, actions and of course loves a tasty treat.
Beagles love to eat. Absolutley love it! And they are creative about finding and accessing food. Experienced owners put food, trash cans and anything else that might appear or smell edible to a Beagle well out of reach. On the plus side, that love of food comes in handy for training Beagles. They’ll do just about anything for a treat!!
Short and soft. An occasional bath and a brush every few weeks to remove any dead hair.
One of the reasons why we breed Beagles is because they would have to be one of the most healthy and robust purebreds around. The main area to watch out for is obesity, which can lead to health problems.
Tri Colour (Black, white and tan) and Lemon and White are the most common colours but they can be any hound colour such as black and white or black and tan.
Beagle Space and Exercise
Beagles are part of the Hound family, so sniffing is a joy for this breed and a daily walk, being able to sniff the time away and have a run and a play with other dogs, is heaven for the happy and easy going Beagle.
Beagle Suitable Owners
Beagles are pack animals, becoming very attached to their human family or “pack”, and are well suited to a variety of active families. They are a great choice for families with children. Beagles are also great for singles and couples who also match up well with this breed, and his size and even temperament make the Beagle a great companion for active seniors who love to walk but don’t mind going at a slow pace to allow the Beagle to sniff to his heart’s content.
