Cavachons

What is a Cavachon?

A Cavachon is a cross between a Bichon Frise and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.  They are a sweet faced, lovely natured small companion dog.  Many Bichon Frise crosses are sought after for their low-shedding, low-dander coats and the Cavachon is one of the most popular examples.  They are better known in the U.S.A however they are quickly becoming more popular in Australia as well.

Do Cavachon shed hair?

Cavchons typically shed very little to no hair making them potentially good for allergy sufferers.   When used as the parent breed, the Bichon Frise (like the Poodle) can produce offspring with low-shedding, low-dander coats.

How big is a Cavchon?

The Cavachon is very similar to the Toy/Mini Cavoodle, both in appearance and size.  Cavachon are usually on average 35cm in height and weigh between 6kg and 9kg.

How much does a Cavachon cost?

Well-bred Cavachons will cost between $5000 and $7000. All Chevromist Kennels Cavachons have been DNA health cleared for over 30 different genetic health issues and are Vaccinated, Microchipped, Vet Checked and come with a Health Guarantee. Regardless of where you choose to purchase your Cavachon from its best to make sure the breeder does screen for health issues and the puppies are vaccinated and microchipped. They should also offer some kind of health guarantee. A well-bred Cavachon is in the lower risk category for developing health issues, hence it is one of the more affordable breeds to insure. In order to not only maintain but to increase the genetic diversity and genetic robustness of Cavachons in Australia, breeders will have another breed in their background. We sometimes also add another breed, such as a Poochon. This has been very successful in keeping Cavachons a healthy and robust designer breed, while keeping the characteristics of the Cavachons that are so well loved.
Do Cavachon make good family dogs?

Yes!  Cavachons have excellent temperaments.  They are very similar in nature to the Cavoodle, however many owners believe that the Cavachon temperament is even more placid than that of the Cavoodle.

Are Cavachons Hypoallergenic? Because Cavachons are crossed with a Bichon Frise they do make often make better dogs for people with allergies however allergies are not caused by a particular type of coat but by dander (dead skin cells) which all dogs drop (and humans for that matter) but Cavachons like other Poodle and Bichon Frise crosses shed less of.
