LabradoodlesLabradoodle Puppies For Sale
One of the most popular and well known of the designer dogs, the Labradoodle is the result of an initial cross between aLabradorand a Poodle. The Labradoodle is reliable and is being developed as a breed in it’s own right and may one day be recognized by kennel clubs in the future.
The Breed started back in 1989 when the Breeding Manager of the Royal Guide Dog Association of Australia inVictoriabred a litter of puppies mating a Standard Poodle andLabrador. His aim was to produce a dog for vision impaired people who also suffered from allergy problems so had trouble working with the regular guide dog breeds.
Other breeders joined in and after years of work it became possible and desirable to mate Labradoodles with other Labradoodles. It didn’t take long for the Labradoodle to win people over. Most people were attracted to the breed because of it’s low shedding coat but increasingly, Labradoodles became popular because of their gentle, friendly personality, trainability and their ability to work with people.
Affectionate and gentle with a great personality. These are just a few reasons why the Labradoodle makes the perfect companion for families, singles and active older people. They have a long life span and have a great desire to be part of the family.
Labradoodles should be joyful and energetic when off the lead while being gentle and quiet when handled. Labradoodles love people and other dogs and pets.
Most Labradodoles have a single coat but coats will vary from short to coarse to long and curly so grooming requirements will vary. Like all low shedding breeds, clipping and brushing is necessary to maintain their coat to the desired length.
Labradoodle Coat Types
Hair coat – has a texture of typical dog hair. Labradoodles with a hair coat will shed and can have several different looks ranging from sparse feathering on the legs and bearded face to a shaggy, scruffy all over look.
Fleece coat – is a very soft textured coat. It is a non shedding coat and can have a straight to wavy look or a soft and spiralling curl.
Wool coat – is reminiscent of sheeps wool in texture. It is non shedding and soft with a curly look which can range from loose to a more tight curl.
Labradoodle Space and Exercise
Labradoodles can do well just about anywhere. Obviously if living in a small apartment then a daily walk is necessary and a Mini Labradoodle would be a better suit to that living arrangement. Crate training is great, as Labradoodles are happy to sleep in small comfortable spaces but it’s always important to introduce them to crate training first.
Characteristics of the Labradoodle Parents
The Poodle parent breed has a coat more like wool and sheds little or no hair, offering an ideal balance to theLabradorwhich has a shedding coat. Breeders have focused on producing Labradoodles with low-shedding, low dander coats. This can be determined from a young age and should be asked about when enquiring into puppies for sale.
Labrador Retrievers are intelligent and great to train. Poodles are regarded as one of the most intelligent breeds, which contributes to making the Labradoodle the smart and easily trained breed that it is. Not many breeds have a better temperament than a Labradoodle.
First Generation Labradoodles
Some breeders produce first generation Labradoodles. In this case theLabradoris normally the mother or “dam” as they make the better mothers when compared to Poodles. These first generation dogs are also known as Labradoodles.
Multi Generation Labradoodles
Many Labradoodle breeders today produce second or third generation Labradoodles or backcrossed Labradoodles. There is less consistency in the (F2) and (F3) generation Labradodles when compared to the first generation dogs. One of the greatest developments with breeding Labradoodles is that over many years breeders have developed a Multi Generation Labradoodle exceeding 6 generations.
Labradoodle Breeding Goals
The aim for most professional Labradoodle breeders is to breed an all round great dog suited to most families and individuals that is non shedding and allergy friendly. Breeders are continually improving their breeding programs to improve the Labradoodle coat types and temperament.
