For decades the Spoodle has been a popular dog. Spoodles can be either English or American. The English is the more common of the two and is the result of a cross between a Poodle and an English Cocker Spaniel. The American Spoodle is a cross between the Poodle and the American Cocker Spaniel. In theUSAthe Spoodle is also know as the Cockapoo.
Spoodles are one of the older and better known of the designer dogs and have been bred since the 1950s. The original matings were most likely accidental but the intelligence and low shedding coat of the Poodle combined with the easy going nature of the Spaniel has won over many dog lovers.
The Spoodle has inherited its high intelligence from the Poodle parent breed as well as its low-shedding, low dander coat. This has made the Spoodle a potentially good option for people with allergy problems.
The Spoodle is loyal, intelligent, and very affectionate. This dog is fairly easy to train being mixed with what is said to be one of the smartest dogs in the world. Being that this dog is mixed with the Poodle, he makes a wonderful training student. Having a very sweet nature, this dog is sure to steal the hearts of many.
Spoodles often inherit the sweet and patient disposition associated with the Cocker Spaniel provide that both parents have been selected on the basis of good temperament.
English Spoodles are more commonly bred because the English Cocker Spaniel has fewer health and temperament problems but American Spoodles can still make good family pets provided they have been selectively bred.
Chevromist Kennels encourages breeders to hold health and temperament first and foremost and to aim for a Spoodle with a calm and relaxed disposition. Spoodles should be sweet and patient, intelligent, loyal and friendly.
The Spoodle coat is usually wavy with loose and fluffy curls but the curls are not as tight as a Poodle coat. A 5 to 10 minute daily brush is needed depending on the length of the coat. The longer the coat the more brushing is needed but otherwise the Spoodle coat is not difficult to maintain.
A Spoodle doesn’t resemble either parent breed, they can come in either Miniature size or Toy size and can come in a range of colours including shades of gold, red, black, black and white, chocolate and chocolate and white.
The Spoodle is a happy-go-lucky dog that loves to run and play with his family. No yard is fine, but this dog does require daily walks. They also have the tendency to over eat so exercise is needed for this dog to stay healthy.
